Day 39 For The Next Generation

Day 39: Revive Retreat 40 days of Prayer.

In his 18th year of leading Judah, King Josiah (age 26) realized that he had never seen the Word of God. 2 Kings 22:2 tells us that “he did what was right in the sight of the Lord.” But he realized that the people he led had ransacked God’s temple over the years and hidden God’s Word so that worship and prayer were almost non-existent. For the first time, Josiah was struck that even though he was right in God’s eyes; Judah was facing an impending judgment based on Deuteronomy 28:15 that God would curse his people if they did not observe his commandments and statutes (paraphrased). He realized his people needed revival. Josiah realized 3 things:

Some things had to change and be removed. He purposed to live differently.
He repented for his nation. He purposed to declare that Judah had been wrong and now it’s time to turn around.
He declared that the people return to God with true worship, prayer and following God’s Word. He purposed to leave the disobedience behind and seek God and His will.

Because of the sin of the nation, God’s wrath had to be displayed. But because of the obedience of Josiah, God chose to delay His judgment until Josiah’s generation passed away.

Over the next 39 days ask God to heal us of any disobedience that we have done against Him and let’s turn our hearts fully towards the Father.
