DAY 23 FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

DAY 23

Back to Isaiah 40:

12 Who else has held the oceans in his hand? Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers? Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale? 13 Who is able to advise the Spirit of the Lord? Who knows enough to give him advice or teach him? 14 Has the Lord ever needed anyone’s advice? Does he need instruction about what is good? Did someone teach him what is right or show him the path of justice?

It's so easy for us mighty humans to take God out of His regal status and place Him in the likeness as one of us. In other words, we don't need God for every decision. Furthermore, why should we set aside time each day to thank Him, to give praise to Him, to ask what He would like from us each day. Of course I say we put God in our likeness fully with my tongue planted on the side of my cheek!!

Figuratively, we ACT as if God is like us. Isaiah put it very bluntly when he asked a series of questions regarding humanity versus God:

1. Who hold the oceans and measured off the heavens in his hand?
2. Who knows enough knowledge to give God advice or to even teach Him a few things.
3. Who is able to point God in the right direction?

This is why I love ole Ike as a prophet. He's as sarcastic as I am. Imagine him standing in front of this same crowd in 2009. His statement would go something like this:

OMG, do you people really think you can say anything to God that He already doesn't know. Everything is in the Big Man's hands. Do you really think He needs the 411 from us. Come on people, what's the color of the sky in your universe?

As my fellow warrior in Christ would remind me, Jesus states to the church of Laodiciea in Revelation 3:17 "I have everything I want. I don't need a thing! And you don't realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked." Jesus reaffirms Isaiah's statement that we cannot do anything humanly possible to enhance God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit.

BUT . . . what we can do is to praise Him for all the goodness and mercy we receive. Thank Him for all the provisions He gives us each day. Worship Him for being so high, so wide, so deep that nothing can surpass Him. And finally, trust Him that every drop of water, every breath of air, or every hair on my body is numbered by this incredible Father to me.

I love to rub Luke's new blond hair that is growing on his little "pumpkin" head. I can see it coming in, but I don't know how many hairs are there. God does.

Daddy, I pray that we celebrate You today. I feel so protected knowing EVERYTHING is in Your hands.

I love You,

Jody
