"The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth." Romans 1:18
Have you ever asked the question, "why don't I feel close to God" or "what happened to my passion for Him?" There usually is a good reason for this, SIN.
This is not a "feel-good" subject. But nevertheless, a subject that most followers of Christ need to hear. Why? Because sin keeps us from experiencing the fullness of God and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our life. James MacDonald puts it this way:
Sin is like an umbrella. God's grace can be pouring down all around you,If we have sin in our life, we must take ownership of it. Sin will keep us
even blessing your family or friends at church, but all God is giving fails
to fall on you because of sin. Like a big umbrella held high over your head,
sin blocks the showers of blessing from reaching your life.
from God's downpouring of blessings and revival. Unconfessed sin as the scripture
says "suppresses the truth." 1 John 1:9 says "if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Confession to God is such a great act that we always have at our disposal. It's a shame that we have to confess, because that means we have sinned. But to think that an almighty God allows us to ask for forgiveness. And then to think that an almighty God who doesn't need us, loves us enough to forgive us and "cleanse" us from all our sins is mind boggling.
To cleanse in a biblical sense, is a picture of one taking pruning scissors to a grapevine or a rose bush. Cutting off the parts that will keep the grape or rose from growing into the fullness that was intended. God wants us to "cut away" the parts of us (sin) that will keep us from being fully fed and growing to our potential.
Daddy, I ask You to search my heart and my mind and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Thank you for forgiveness.
Your son,
Jody
