DAY 28
We will continue our Isaiah 40 devos on Monday morning. Until then this thought. As I prepare for tomorrows message, I have been in thought about what it is to have a fresh touch from God.
22 The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. 23 Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. 24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”
Jeremiah wrote Lamentations as a methodical message of sorrow because of Jerusalem's demise. He assesses the reasons for the judgment of God and repeatedly declares that the judgement is just. But in chapter 3 he switches gears and proclaims of God's hope and deliverance.
In chapter 3, Jeremiahs writes of God's mercies and how they are new each day. Mercy comes from the Hebrew word "hesed" meaning lovingkindness. The word captures the spirit of the term "grace" (Greek word "karis") in the New Testament.
Mercy and compassion (i.e. grace) speak of the tender hand of God even in the time of despair and destruction. In spite of chaos in our world, the prophet reminds us that every day when we awake, God's mercies are fresh, verifying His great faithfulness.
This should bring us hope in tough days ahead. Our faithful Father is always "fresh" to us. In the good times and the bad times. Thank you Daddy.
Your son,
Jody
