DAY 29 FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

DAY 29
ISAIAH 40

6 A voice said, “Shout!” I asked, “What should I shout?”
“Shout that people are like the grass. Their beauty fades as quickly as the flowers in a field.
7 The grass withers and the flowers fade beneath the breath of the Lord. And so it is with people.
8 The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”

We've heard this phrase forever "beauty fades but God word stands forever." Wow, that's so fresh but my haven't we taken this for granted. We don't think about powerful His word is, until . . . we get out of bed every morning and then it's not hard to notice how beauty fades. Not that I am beautiful, but I see it daily every morning I look into the mirror. I am fading fast.

Fast seems to be an understatement. As we get older, it seems that there are not enough hours in the day to get anything accomplished. Before we know it, it's 10 p.m. again and time to get ready for bed, wake up, and it's 10 p.m. again.

The only time that I find slowing down is when I spend time with my Heavenly Daddy. When His word is opened or when our hearts are engaged in spending time with him in worship or prayer. This scripture says it all. Flowers fade, grass withers, hair turns gray, faces wrinkle, bodies . . . you get the drift.

This scripture is a glorious affirmation of the TOTAL sufficiency and eternal existence of God's word. Regardless of the of decay of nature, human frailty, and changing circumstances, God's word is sure. He gives ABSOLUTE promises which certainly will be accomplished. His word lives and breathes in the hearts of those who, through ALL ages, have been regenerated.

The moral of this story is this: if we would look at God's word each morning before we look at our face in the mirror, we might not feel the pinch of aging as much because we are looking from an eternal perspective. Think about it!!

Daddy, let us slow down the aging process of life and be still and know that you are God. Give us a desire to make you first each day of our lives. Let us look at Your unchanging and never aging word before we look at our own personal frailty.

Your son,

Jody
