DAY 30
Isaiah 40: 3 Listen! It’s the voice of someone shouting, “Clear the way through the wilderness for the Lord! Make a straight highway through the wasteland for our God! 4 Fill in the valleys, and level the mountains and hills. Straighten the curves, and smooth out the rough places. 5 Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. The Lord has spoken!”
Greek version reads He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, / “Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming! / Clear a road for our God! / Fill in the valleys, / and level the mountains and hills. / And then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, / and all people will see the salvation sent from God. / The Lord has spoken!” Compare Matt 3:3; Mark 1:3; Luke 3:4-6
Isaiah is proclaiming these words 700 years before the birth of Christ. But God planted this on his heart to say, clear everything out of the way. God's glorious revelation in the form of Jesus Christ is coming. John the Baptist also foretold of God's glorious revelation.
There are two major schools of theological thought going on here. One is called preterism, that is, the scripture has already been fulfilled and the other is futurism, that is the future will be fulfilled. I am caught right in the middle of these two beliefs.
Simply put, the glory of God's revelation has already been fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Jesus' glory allows us to bask in his sacrifice on the cross. To overcome by His rising from the tomb. To be overwhelmed by his ascension into Heaven. And to utilize His being our High Priest and taking our prayers to the Father.
I also believe in the future glory that is to be revealed. Jesus will return in the fullness of God's glory and take His Church to live forever in the new Jerusalem.
So to be caught between these two beliefs is a cool thing. Jesus came in glory to redeem us and give us a new heart. Jesus will come again and wipe away every tear, every pain and give us a glorified body.
The verses today tell us to clear the path. At all costs, remove the clutter and receive the glory of Jesus Christ in your life today!!
Blessings,
Jody
