DAY 25 FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

DAY 25

I am doing a Bible Study each morning on "Downpour" by James MacDonald. It has been fascinating to read and study about Old Testament characters who received a downpour from God and made a difference in their generations. In each case, the O.T. characters had to choose obedience over defiance. I wonder why I am feeling so defiant this week? God always puts the right book or person or song in my life when my defiant nature want to kick in.
I read out of 2 Chronicles, chapters 29-32 and 2 Kings 18-20 in my study this morning. It's way too much to print here but thought I would do a synopsis of the text in 2 Kings. In this scripture we once again discover that choosing God's way makes all the difference in the world:

2 Kings 18
Hezekiah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord just as King David did. King Hezekiah trusted in the Lord and kept God's commands. The Lord was with him and gave him success. King Hezekiah rebelled against Assyria. Sennacherib (the king of Assyria) comes back. Hezekiah tries to bribe him, but Sennacherib continues to march against Judah and Jerusalem. Sennacherib's officer engages in mental warfare against the people inside of Jerusalem.
2 Kings 19
Hezekiah sends his leadership team to the prophet Isaiah in humility asking for Isaiah's prayers.
Isaiah says not to worry about Sennacherib and that Sennacherib will not overtake Jerusalem.
Hezekiah takes that message and goes before God in prayer. He petitions God for deliverance. God responds to Hezekiah through Isaiah and tells Hezekiah not to be afraid of what he has heard from Sennacherib's underlings and that God would deliver Hezekiah. God killed 185,000 of Sennacherib's army and then put Sennacherib to death by the sword as God had foretold through his prophet Isaiah.

Hezekiah had a choice – to go with what he saw in his circumstances or to trust God. Hezekiah chose to trust God and God delivered him.
Daddy, another example of Your faithfulness if we keep our eyes on You and not our circumstance. Let this story constantly remind us that you are faithful.
your son,
Jody
