DAY 26
ISAIAH 40:
9 O Zion, messenger of good news, shout from the mountaintops! Shout it louder, O Jerusalem. Shout, and do not be afraid. Tell the towns of Judah, “Your God is coming!” 10 Yes, the Sovereign Lord is coming in power. He will rule with a powerful arm. See, he brings his reward with him as he comes. 11 He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young.
Working with students, it's sometimes hard to get their attention. Sometimes the best result is to stand on a chair and simply "out shout" them. Today, with IPods and MP3 players it's even harder to "out shout " a student at times. But if you want your message to get thru, it's simply a necessity of life.
Isaiah tells us in this passage to "stand on our chair" and shout out loud the following things:
*God is present!
*God is mighty!
*God will "gather his lambs".
Picture a daddy that stands tall and upright. A daddy with outstretched burly arms that gathers his children and snuggles with them against his chest. I know this feeling because I see how Luke melts into my arms and digs his head into my chest as I pick him up.
There is no better feeling for both parties. The child feels safe and secure. And most importantly the child feels order in a chaotic world. The daddy feels love and most importantly his role as provider and protector. We have this with our Heavenly Daddy.
Daddy, I want to bury my head in your chest today. I want to feel you "gather" me into your safe arms in spite of the all the chaos, economic woes and struggles that I will face today. I know I am ultimately cared for and loved. Like Isaiah, I want to shout this from my "mountain" today. Oh how the world needs to hear this. I love you more than life Daddy. (I can almost hear Him say to me a game we play with the kids, I love you more!)
Your Son,
Jody
